Ubuntu 20.04 Burn ISO to DVD step by step instructions

  1. Check your system whether it supports DVD burning. Start by opening a terminal window and execution of the bellow command:
    $ cat /proc/sys/dev/cdrom/info
    
     hardware device which supports DVD write

    Your system should have at least one hardware device which supports DVD write. Check the output and look for Can write DVD-R. The integer 1 means that the DVD write is supported.

  2. Next, download the ISO image you wish to burn. As an example, in this tutorial, we will burn downloaded Ubuntu 20.04 ISO image.
  3. open software

    Use top left Activities menu to open the Software application.



  4. brasero burn/write DVD

    Search for brasero application.

  5. begin brasero dvd writer installation

    To begin the installation press the Install button.

  6. enter sudo user password

    Enter your username and password. Your user needs to belong to sudo administrative group.

  7. open iso image with brasero dvd burner

    Insert blank DVD and use the File Manager to locate the ISO image you wish to burn to DVD. Right click on the ISO image file and select Open With Brasero.

  8. Insert blank DVD and select it to write the ISO image to

    Select the blank DVD to write the ISO image to. Once ready hit the Burn button.

    AUTHOR NOTE
    It may take some time for the system to search and detect the inserted blank DVD. In my case I had to wait 1-2 minutes for the Brasero to find compatible DVD disk. If anything, this seems to me like a minor software bug.


  9. Wait for Brasero to burn the ISO image to DVD

  10.  ISO image is successfully burned to DVD disc

    You should see a Success message once the ISO image is successfully burned to DVD disc.
