Install Thunderbird on Ubuntu

The Thunderbird email client installation package is part of the official Ubuntu package repository and is installed as a default email client for Gnome Ubuntu 18.04 desktop. In case the Thunderbird email client is not already installed on your Ubuntu 18.04 you can use the apt command to perform the installation.

Open up terminal and enter:

$ sudo apt install thunderbird


Launch Thunderbird

Search your start menu for the Thunderbird launcher icon or execute:

$ thunderbird

If you are using the default Ubuntu 18.04 Gnome desktop click on the Thunderbird Launcher icon on your left desktop panel:

Once the Thunderbird installation is complete you should see the thunderbird’s icon launcher on the left panel. Click to start.
