How to add Start Menu to Gnome Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver Desktop

Objective

The objective is to add Start menu button by installing a Gno-Menu GNOME extension.

Operating System and Software Versions

  • Operating System: – Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver Linux
  • Software: -GNOME Shell 3.28.0

Requirements

Privileged access to your Ubuntu System as root or via sudo command is required.

Conventions

  • # – requires given linux commands to be executed with root privileges either directly as a root user or by use of sudo command
  • $ – requires given linux commands to be executed as a regular non-privileged user

Install Prerequisites

The first step is to install the Firefox Gnome Shell integration Add-on and Host Connector package. For detailed instructions on how to proceed, follow our How to install Gnome Shell Extensions on Ubuntu 18.04 guide.



Install GNOME start menu

Once you have all prerequisites in place navigate your Firefox browser to the Gno-Menu extension page. First, turn on the ON switch and then hit the Install button to confirm the GNOME extension installation.

Start Menu will appear on your Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver Desktop

When successful the Start Menu will appear on your Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver Desktop
